Rooted In Tradition & Raised With Purpose
Oakshade Acres started the way most backyard flocks do — with a handful of chicks and a whole lot of curiosity. What began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion for raising quality birds with exceptional temperaments and stunning colors. We do our best to honor the legacy of the English Orpington and take great Pride in our raising Heritage Breeds to the best of our ability
We specialize in English Orpingtons, offering a wide range of colors from the classic Buff to the rare Mauve and Chocolate Laced varieties. We also keep Polish, Bantam Cochins, and Bantam Easter Eggers for those who love variety in their flocks.
Every bird here is raised with care, handled from hatch day, and loved before they ever reach your farm. We're a small operation — and we think that makes all the difference.

Hatching Eggs
Shipped eggs are a gamble. I want to be fully transparent: I cannot guarantee hatch rates. But I can guarantee that I hatch from all of my coops consistently, and that I would never ship eggs I wouldn't hatch myself.
I guarantee responsive communication, respect, and the best care of the hens that lay your eggs.
Buyers are responsible for researching breed requirements and proper incubation — we can't be held accountable for your incubating practices. Please open your package at the post office to report any broken or damaged eggs immediately.
Ordering is simple — we handle everything through direct messaging so you always reach us directly.

Everything you need to know to give your new chicks a great start.
You'll want: a brooder (plastic tote, cardboard box, or brooder pan); a heat lamp or heating plate — chicks need 90–95°F the first week, decreasing 5°F each week; chick starter feed (medicated or non-medicated); a chick waterer — refresh daily; pine shavings or paper towels as bedding.
Chicks need supplemental heat until they are fully feathered, usually around 6–8 weeks of age. Start at 90–95°F and reduce by 5°F each week. If chicks huddle under the lamp they're too cold; if they avoid it, they're too hot.
Feed chick starter crumbles for the first 8 weeks. Switch to grower feed from 8–18 weeks, then layer pellets once they start laying. Always have fresh, clean water available. Avoid treats until 3+ weeks of age.
Chicks can be introduced to outdoor time on warm days (70°F+) once fully feathered (6–8 weeks). Always supervise for protection against predators and bullying from your flock. Can Be released Outdoors Full Time Around 8-10 weeks if temperature does not drop below 50°F.
At this time we do local pickup only in Dayton, Texas. We do ship hatching eggs via USPS Priority Mail with careful packing to maximize hatch rates. Contact us for shipping details and pricing.

Hatching egg availability follows our hens' laying cycles. Spring and summer are best. We also sell fresh fertile eggs for eating when we have surplus.
Most of our chicks are sold straight run (unsexed). We occasionally have sexed pullets available, especially for older birds (Local Pick-Up ONLY) — ask us when you reach out.
